Introducing GLCR Advocate - Robbie Sell

Former professional snowboarder and expert adventurer, Robbie Sell, has journeyed vastly throughout North America while living in his VW van. We are pleased to welcome Robbie to the 686 family and introduce him as a GLCR Advocate.

Age? Younger than Kevin Jones, Older than Red Gerard.

Where did you grow up? Truckee, the North Lake Tahoe area

How long have you been snowboarding? Since 1991, I think??

How long have you been shooting photos?

I started taking photography serious the last couple years of my pro snowboard career (2005ish), even shooting with 686 superstars Pat McCarthy, Stephen Duke, & Ryan Thompson!

How long have you been living the van life?

I was car camping for about a year, traveling over 25,000 miles across the USA. I recently passed along the van to a fellow vagabond so it could continue the adventures. I do miss it at times, living so simple, it was liberating.

What gave you the inspiration to do so? Was it mostly for your career?

After being laid off from a brand I was at for a few years I wanted to finally take a real vacation, but also had wanted to create a fun media project. It took a few months of heavy planning and vehicle work, then the Living VANcariously tour hit the road. It was the coolest experience of my life....so far.

Are you working on any interesting projects?

Yeah, in the process of creating a new outdoor lifestyle brand, Wishbone Utility Co.

What are some of your favorite past projects or trips?

So many great memories with the Neoproto crew.  Japan, Argentina, Czech Republic, Australia; amazing adventures with great people.

When you think of a tough adventure is there a past trip that comes to mind?

One time after leaving a photo shoot in Europe, the plane had a layover in London, right when that Icelandic volcano just started erupting (2010?). The ash in the atmosphere was too dangerous for planes to operate in, cancelled all flights, and nobody knew how long it would be until the airport would open back up. I ended up being stranded there for 10 days, but had the best accidental vacation ever!!!

 - My Granddad always used to tell me, "If you're going to do something half-assed, don't do it at all." I feel the 686 GLCR Project perfectly relates to this mindset, and the product will always have me ready for any adventure.
