We are required by state law to collect sales tax on all orders shipping to California.  If you are shipping to any other state you will not be billed for sales tax.

If you live far outside of the city, then it is usually best to select Priority or Express as your shipping method.  Both of these methods ship via FedEx which is best for rural area delivery.  Free Shipping and Standard Shipping mostly use USPS, which sometimes has trouble delivering packages to rural areas.

Yes, we suggest using FedEx for delivery to a hotel.  You should also confirm the correct shipping address with the hotel prior to placing your order, as some hotels have a different address for package delivery.  Some hotels may also require your room#, reservation# etc., so be sure to ask the hotel before placing your order.

Currently, we can ship directly to the USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, and select countries within Europe.  We may be adding additional countries in the future so be sure to check back.

Exchanges are accepted within 45 days from the shipment date and are 100% free! Item(s) must be in new, unused condition with all original tags still attached.

Returns for a refund are accepted within 30 days of the shipment date, and still only if the item(s) are in new, unused condition with all original tags still attached.  An $8 return shipping fee will be deducted from your refund.

Refunded amounts will be applied to the original payment method used for ordering. We make every effort to process the refund as soon as we receive the product, but it can take up to 10 days to appear on your statement.  We do not process refunds for the original shipping cost.

Every Microtube™ is graded to match its jacket size. However, if you feel your Microtube™ is too long, you can easily shorten it. Watch the tutorial below and don’t forget – measure twice, cut once.

Currently, the Hydrastash built-in apparel system can only be used in Hydrastash ready jackets. These jackets have been specially designed to seamlessly integrate the Hydrastash system consisting of the reservoir, Microtube and Microbite valve. Your current jacket does not have the correct snowskirt adaptability or design, nor does it have the Hydrastash full zip channel to hold the Microtube to take advantage of the Hydrastash in-apparel. We will be adding more styles coming very soon that can adapt to the Hydrastash system.

Recognize that both the Archetype and Infinity Face Masks are masks and not respirators. That being said, they both will protect you and offer similar, but different experiences. 

If you are looking for a Face Mask to wear for extended time periods, travel, and areas where you constantly touch common surfaces like a climbing or bodybuilding gym, then the Archetype Face Mask is the call. The 4-point strap system and specific shape create a mask with a great seal. The stretch cords go around your head instead of around your ears creating comfort for long periods of time. The Polygiene® ViralOff finish protects your mask because as you may touch your mask from time to time, the finish keeps your mask safe from contamination that may transfer to your mask and prolongs the need for washing until the mask is noticeably soiled. 

If you are looking for a simple, easy-wearing mask for quick store trips, outdoor walks, or daily activities, the Infinity Merino 3-Pack of masks might be your choice. It is a lightweight mask that is easy to breathe in. The adjustable internal metal strip conforms to your face for support and seal along your nose bridge and cheek line. The 3-pack is great because you can keep different masks in your rotation to accessorize your outfit, keep one in your car for on-the-go needs or rotate washed and dirty masks.

The filtration provided by a fabric is impaired when the fabric is wet. Synthetic fibers like the polyester spandex used in this mask absorb less water than natural fibers like cotton which helps preserve the functionality and comfort of the mask. The stretch in the polyester spandex also aids in comfort and fit.

We feel that our merino wool blend inner layer strikes a preferred balance between breathability and filtration in a lightweight performance fabric. It is also naturally hypoallergenic, antimicrobial, and moisture-wicking – all properties that aid in the performance and comfort of your mask.

Simply put, more layers equal more filtration. The added layers of merino wool blend polyamide nylon in the Archetype Face Mask are thin, lightweight, and highly breathable, creating more filtration without noticeable weight difference. It is important to note that any mask with multiple layers must be highly breathable in order to draw the breath through the filtering fabrics. If the mask is not breathable, upon inhale you would draw air around the mask, rather than through it, and the air you are breathing would not be filtered, which would limits the protection you receive.

Yes. Each head strap is stretch to accommodate more head sizes and shapes, and has a soft PU adjuster for easy fit adjustments. We designed these soft adjusters to be low profile, so they fit comfortably inside hats and helmets during activity. 

It is important in order to make sure the air you’re breathing is air that passed through the mask instead of around the mask or via the gaps on edges of the mask. It is important that your mask creates a strong seal around your mouth and nose. We achieve this secure fit with both masks via unique design features. The Archetype Face Mask has added nose articulation, an under-chin panel, and two independent and adjustable head straps that pull around your head for the most customizable and secure fit possible. The Infinity Mask’s simple shape makes use of an adjustable internal metal strip across the nose bridge to help seal the mask across the top. All materials are chosen to ensure that you are comfortable when the mask is snuggly secured to your face.

We recommend cleaning the Infinity Face Mask routinely, depending on the frequency of use. The Archetype Face Mask should only be washed when noticeably soiled. It can sustain longer periods between washes due to the Polygiene® ViralOff finish.

ViralOff passes ISO18184:2019 testing methods for the determination of the antiviral activity of the textile products against specified viruses. Presently the FDA does not have a testing protocol for approving health claims of fabric treatments. However, you can read more about the testing Polygiene® has performed via their website.

Testing has shown that ViralOff remains fully effective for at least 30 washes. After 30 washes the treatment may begin to lose effectiveness and slowly become more susceptible to surface contamination. It is for this reason we recommend not washing the mask unless it is noticeably soiled. It is important to note that the mask itself does not rely on the Polygiene® ViralOff treatment for filtration and will remain effective as long as the mask is not visibly damaged. This means that your mask still works after 30 washes, but you now will need to take the same precautions that you do with any mask that is not finished with Polygiene® ViralOff.

“Anti-microbial” is defined as “destroying or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and especially pathogenic microorganisms.” Both 686 Face Masks are finished with an anti-microbial solution on the outer and inner fabrics. The Infinity Face Mask is finished with a custom antimicrobial chemistry, while the Archetype Face Mask is finished Polygiene® ViralOff. The CDC recommends all people 2 years of age and older wear a cloth face covering in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

According to the CDC, children younger than 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, and anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assistance.

According to the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings. The spread of COVID-19 can be reduced when cloth face coverings are used along with other preventive measures, including social distancing, frequent handwashing, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. Current and former cancer patients, the elderly, people with diabetes, and those with autoimmune conditions (many of which are undiagnosed) are all at a higher risk from COVID-19. To help protect these communities and anyone else you may come in contact with, we encourage all customers to wear a face mask when in public settings, especially those where social distancing is hard to maintain.

To preserve breathability, we did not add a waterproof membrane. However, the polyester spandex outer layer will absorb significantly less water than cotton or canvas alternatives. The inner merino wool blend layer also has moisture-wicking properties, helping to transport moisture accumulation away from your face via evaporation. Thanks to this strategic layering this mask will dry quicker and better retain effectiveness than cotton or disposable alternatives.

According to CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield, “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus.” You can read about some of the studies they use to measure effectiveness here.

Reversing climate change is an all-hands challenge. A small fraction of companies know what their carbon footprints look like. Even fewer are actually investing to eliminate them. Climate Neutral focuses solely on climate impact. The Climate Neutral Certified label says "we're a brand that is taking immediate and rigorous climate action." Brands with the label measure and offset all of the emissions it takes to run their business, produce products or services, and deliver them to customers. All certified brands are also working to reduce their carbon footprint.

Our entire "cradle to customer" brand-level operations are covered. The only thing not included is emissions from use and disposal of our products. Categories evaluated are below:

Through 3Degrees, the leading North American carbon specialist, we are sourcing carbon offsets from third-party verified forest and renewable projects to address our 2020 carbon footprint.

Southeast Asia remains a strategic area to manufacture highly technical garments thanks to a very skilled labor force. We always look at other areas closer to home to manufacture but we have yet to find the right partner. As a result, we have been focusing on setting lofty standards using the HIGG index as a benchmark.

We are aware that the fabrics we use and that our fans love need to be managed differently, hence why we have been focusing on our fabrics’ carbon footprint. Now that we understand our impact, we are setting aggressive targets to reduce it. As we look at cotton as a fabric we will go after in the future we will be managing the water impact which tends to be intense in cotton. We are aware we are producers and hence bear responsibility and we are working to minimize our impact via setting aggressive targets.

We are moving towards a ‘nutrition’ type label that will eventually be on our garments. We believe this education and information will be helpful to our fans.

A Carbon Footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by a product. This is represented with the symbol CO2e and measure in kilograms (kg).  

CO2 refers to Carbon Dioxide, while CO2e stands for "Carbon Dioxide Equivalent" which includes CO2 and other greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is a natural, colorless, and odorless greenhouse gas that is emitted when fossil fuels (i.e. natural gas, oil, coal, etc.) are burnt.

• This encapsulates the products entire lifecycle from creation to end of life. Including material, manufacturing, waste, care and lifespan.
• Note: End of life does not include the disposal of a product as that is not a standard in the Higg Product Module. It only includes our measurements of Repair, Re-wear and Recycling.

Our Carbon Footprint is calculated using the Higg Product Module 1.0 (Higg PM 1.0 at Higg.org) developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). We have tracked our carbon emissions through the following areas – materials, manufacturing, transportation, product use, end of life. The results are calculated by our company and are not verified. They include cradle-to-grave impacts. Read more about the methodology and how we developed our calculations here.

• Materials – This includes fabrics, trims and packing materials such as hangtags, polybags and boxes.
• Manufacturing – This is based off of the cutting and sewing length of fabric used to produce the product, including any excess fabric.
• Transportation – Takes into consideration all Inbound (factory to our warehouse) and Outbound (Our warehouse to buyer) shipping methods and distance.
• Product use – Should be thought of as Product Care for our products. Our standard care is Machine Wash Cool, Machine Dry, No Ironing.
• End of life – This is measured containing three categories. Repair, Recycling, and Re-wear. Our products were not designed for repair even though we provide repair patches, buttons, and zippers for customers to repair, so it is still in an exceedingly small scale. We do not currently have a recycling or re-wear program but are planning to work towards building a re-ware program soon.

Hello Everyone, 

I hope you’re doing well despite the ever-changing landscape of today. COVID-19 is real and we’re all dealing with it our own ways. Our position at 686 is to continually move forward in best practices with the mindset that our community comes first. 

Running an independent small business for the past 28 years has taught us to continually persevere in the most interesting times. This determination to do good and help others is at the top of our list. We are striving to create safety not only physically by distancing ourselves, but also through online safe spaces for our community to discuss their thoughts, emotions and feelings and uplift each other through this. 

What we’re doing: 

• We are promoting Social Distancing and our staff is now working remotely. We are allowing them safe space to socially distance and time to be with their families. 
• Our customer service will continue to operate remotely and will function as normal, but if you do experience any issues, please be mindful of the person on the other end. 
• Our e-commerce store is opening and shipping under best safe practice and responsibility guidelines.
• Our professional team of skiers and snowboarders have stopped filming and chosen to responsibly distance themselves as well as ensure they stay injury-free and out of the hospital during these times when every hospital bed and staff member needs to be considered.
• We are committed to continuing to support our staff, athletes and partners as we work together as a global community.

 The positive thing that everyone is going through this and everyone also has the power to get past this. When it’s all said and done, it will prove that we can overcome anything.
